The 'Time Is' Lineup Sestava skupiny - "Time Is"

Greg Masters, Dave Pritchard, Mike Hopkins, Dave Walker, Roger Spencer.

V lednu 1970 následoval odchod Jeffa Lynna k "The Move". Idle Race přijali dva nové členy - Mika Hopkinse (kytara) a Dave Walkera (vocals/harmonica) - a najali legendárního manažera Dona Ardena.

Vydali pak své dva dokončené singly, a ačkoli to byly staronové verze, oba odráželi spíše časnější zvuk 'Birthday Party'. Singly "In The Summertime" (Mungo Jerry) a "Neanderthal Man" (Hotlegs) dosáhly mírného úspěchu v Evropě. Zato ale v Jižní Americe, v zvláště v Argentině zaznamenal "In The Summertime" hned první místo tamnějšího žebříčku, a velmi brzy poté ho následoval i "Neanderthal Man", když oba dosáhly masivních prodejů. Přes nečekaný úspěch obou singlů, skupina nedostávala ani penny (snad ani do dnešního dne)! Přes omluvy gramofonové firmy bylo ale jasné, že příčinou je politická nestabilita v Argentině, což znamenalo, že zůstali bez honoráře!

Před svým rozpadem se skupina přestěhovala do Regal Zonophone, jehož prostřednictvím vydala své třetí a poslední album "Time Is". S novým označením přišel i nový směr - byl to svérázný dobře udělaný pop. Mnohé skladby alba klonily se silně k 'elektrické lidové' hudbě, zejména "Dancing Flower", "And The Rain", "I Will See You", a "Bitter Green", zatímco v kontrastu, "By The Sun" se svým rozsáhlým těžkým bluesovým nástrojovým obratem více připomínal první LP nahrané Black Sabbath. "Alcatraz" a dvě roztomilé balady "The Clock" a "Sad O' Sad" byly zjevně ovlivněny stylem Deep Purple. Ve skladbě "She Sang Hymns Out Of Tune" však naopak uslyšíme mladíky s nohama ponořenýma do čistého zvuku Idle Race.

The Idle Race přestali existovat v únoru 1972. Ostatní členové nahradili Grega Masterse Bobem Griffinem a toho pak znovu Trevorem Burtonem ze skupiny The Move. A tak jako se Nightriders stali The Idle Race, tak se z Idle Race stal The Steve Gibbons Band.

The Steve Gibbons Band
Trevor Burton, Bob Wilson, Steve Gibbons, Dave Carroll, Bob Lamb.

Time Is - texty písní

Dancing Flower

Lying in the shade with a dancing flower
Shedding petals, sheds one every hour
Does she, don't she
Don't she, does she
Does she, does she not

Playing in a glade with a dancing flower
Shedding petals, sheds one every hour
Will she, won't she
Won't she, will she
Will she, will she not

Like a characature of a lion in a book

Playing in a glade with a dancing flower
Shedding petals, sheds one every hour
Will she, won't she
Won't she, will she
Will she, will she not

Lying in the shade with a dancing flower
Shedding petals, sheds one every hour
Does she, don't she
Don't she, does she
Does she, does she not

Sad O' Sad

So sad o' sad, you made it all too plain
Sad o' sad, I'll never feel the same
I miss you

Mad o' mad, I must've been that day
Mad to send someone like you away
I miss you

Glad so glad, if you were back again
Glad not sad, if things were still the same
I miss you

So sad o' sad, you made it all too plain
Sad o' sad, I wonder who's to blame
I miss you
I miss you

The Clock

The clock upon the wall tells me it's time to go
But I don't want to know
But the clock on the wall

Well friends will talk, my friends will talk
They all will talk
But I don't give a damn
About all their small talk

I just care for you
And there's nothing, nothing anyone can do

Tick tock around the clock
The hands won't stop
But I don't care
I don't care at all

I just care for you
And there's nothing, nothing anyone can do

The hands keep going all the time
And I keep wishing you were mine

Where would and if and what and why
And where we've been
And what went on
I can stay too long

I just care for you
And there's nothing, nothing anyone can do

(Repeat three times)

I Will See You

When the flowers still bloom in the Winter
And the rain doesn't rain anymore
When the great oak tree becomes a splinter
And the ship leaves the captain on the shore

I will see you
I will see you
I will, I will see you
I will see you

When the fish don't swim in the ocean
But soar with wings up in the sky
When the light glows dark on the mountain
Then and only then will I

I will see you
I will see you
I will, I will see you
I will see you

(Repeat)

When words that are spoken have no meaning
To be wasted on a paper that is plain
When dawn birds are singing in the evening
Maybe then I will return

I will see you
I will see you
I will, I will see you
I will see you
I will, I will see you
I will see you

By The Sun

Colours never-ever ending
Raindrops, diamonds from the sky
Flowers, bending in the soft breeze
Carpets woven by the sun

Carpets that are dried up by the sun
Carpets that are dried up by the sun

Colours many different shades
Turn soft then fade
Raindrops just disappear
Flowers blossom and then die

Carpets that are dried up by the sun
Carpets that are dried up by the sun

Colours never ever ending
Raindrops, diamonds from the sky
Flowers, bending in the soft breeze
Carpets woven by the sun

Carpets that are dried up by the sun
Carpets that are dried up by the sun

Alcatraz

This is probably the closest I'm gonna get with these lyrics...
Wooley Bosher on acid! Input is most welcome!

Reservation air free
White guy burn his history
Got to sign a contact with Metro Goldwyn-Mayer
See him in his war paint
Toy, toy with his grease paint
Riding on a pony that they made from wool and wire

See him dressed as Hawkeye
In the cat cave you'll try
Victim were the only with his pigtails in his pocket
He can do the war dance, his Watusi's the chance
Dancing in the disco with a copy camera crew

Leave your half and send me
Go and join a tenny
Find yourself a teepee on Alcatraz

Reservation air free
White guy burn his history
Got to sign a contact with Metro Goldwyn-Mayer
See him in his war paint
Toy, toy with his grease paint
Riding on a pony that they made from wool and wire

Leave your half and send me
Go and join a tenny
Find yourself a teepee on Alcatraz

And The Rain

Crystal coloured glass containing pictures of my past
And wonders that you never even dreamed
Light reflecting shades of  my childhood younger days
And rainbows sometimes never having rained

Times that went so fast, good times that couldn't last
Like lightning never striking twice
Years that weren't so bad, the days that weren't so bright
Like clouds that formed and broke up over night

I climb the twisting path of fate
And I look down on the village far below
And the rain comes and mingles with my tears
Why I'm crying, I will never know

The misty image forms of a time that now I recall
A wave then ripples on a broken shore
Past, present, future too, come flashing into view
Like thunder claps that cannot be ignored

And the wind blows through the corridors of years
And my hair is white, many Winter snows

And the rain comes and mingles with my tears
Why I'm crying, I will never know

I climb the twisting path of fate
And look down on the village far below
And the rain comes and mingles with my tears
Why I'm crying, I will never know

And the rain comes and mingles with my tears
Why I'm crying, I will never know

She Sang Hymns Out Of Tune

She sang hymns outta tune
Carried a yellow balloon
She traded her love for a Spanish dabloon
Talk to the people, ahh people who are

I have a clock on the wall
Keeps time, that isn't all
Tells me how long she's been gone
Gone to the people, ahh people who are

She lived in a sorcerers room
Who pounded the table and brandished the broom
She turned ten thousand when she touched the moon
Turn to the people, ahh people who are

Rain came and scattered away
The romantic caretakers children at play
Early that morning, she passed away...
Passed to the people, ahh people who are
Bahm, bahm, bahm
Aahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
Aahh, ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh

She sang hymns outta tune
Carried a yellow balloon
She traded her love for a Spanish dabloon
Talk to the people, ahh people who are
Bahm, bahm, bahm
Aahh, ahh, ahh, ahh, etc.

Bitter Green

Upon the bitter green she walked the hills above her town
Echoed to her footsteps, as soft as eiderdown
Waiting for her master to kiss away the tears
Waiting through the years

Bitter green they called her walking in the sun
Loving everyone that she met
Bitter green they called her waiting in the sun
Waiting for someone to take her home

Some say he was a sailor who died away at sea
Some say he was a prisoner who never was set free
Lost upon the ocean, he died there in the mist
Dreaming of her kiss

Bitter green they called her walking in the sun
Loving everyone that she met
Bitter green they called her waiting in the sun
Waiting for someone to take her home

But now the bitter green has gone
The hills have turned to rust
There comes a weary stranger, his tears fall in the dust
Kneeling by the church yard, in the Autumn mist
Dreaming of her kiss

Bitter green they called her walking in the sun
Loving everyone that she met
Bitter green they called her waiting in the sun
Waiting for someone to take her home

Upon the bitter green she walked the hills above her town
Echoed to her footsteps, as soft as eiderdown
Waiting for her master to kiss away the tears
Waiting through the years

Bitter green they called her walking in the sun
Loving everyone that she met
Bitter green they called her waiting in the sun
Waiting for someone to take her home
